Haminan Energia’s biogas plant is provided by BioGTS and it is located in Virolahti. Kymen Sanomat newspaper reported that the organic fertilizer, as a biogas plant byproduct from Haminan Energia’s plant, has found its market and it will be taken to sell. Koneta Agriculture Ltd markets the fertilizer mainly to Kymenlaakso and South Karelia areas’ farmers. By the end of this year, the fertilizer will be commercially produced when the biogas plant starts to be in operation.
According to Haminan Energia Ltd’s business director, Janne Ristola, there hasn’t been shortage of the biogas raw materials and the plant can be used with full capacity immediately. Ristola estimates that organic fertilizer will emerge about 14 000 – 16 000 tons during next year.
Haminan Energia biogas plant construction work proceeds according to plan and the plant will start up by the end of this year. According to Haminan Energia, the produced biogas is intended to be sold as fuel for cars. The biogas plant can provide fuel for approx. 900 passenger cars.

The advantages of the BioGTS® biogas plant’s byproduct, organic fertilizer:
• It replaces the industrial fertilizers, whose main component, mineral phosphorus, is a deficiency in ecosystem
• Nutrient recycling and treatment of organic waste becomes more efficient
• Utilizing the byproduct on fields will prevent the nutrient leaching to water system
• The price is lower for the farmers comparing to industrial fertilizers (savings of around € 100 / hectare).

BioGTS® biogas plant’s byproduct will be taken to sell to farmers. Organic fertilizer is suitable to be spread on the fields.
