“Haminan Energia’s biogas plant started operating in Virolahti this week. Gas-forming dry digestation process starts right away after the raw material has been received in the plant. Gas shipments from Haminan Energia Ltd’s biogas plant will start from the beginning of December.
The plant will be operated in full power at the beginning of next year. The biogas plant is ready, except storage silos for grass. Construction work for storage silos is at an early stage at the moment. The biogas plant will produce annually 15 to 20 gigawatt-hours of the gas. This amount corresponds to the annual consumption of 1,500-1,800 passenger cars. Biogas produced in Haminan Energia’s biogas plant is mainly intended to produce biomethane for transportation use. In Southern Kymenlaakso area biogas can be refueled in the cities of Kotka and Hamina. The third local refueling station will be built over the next year in Vaalimaa.”
