The start up of the process of biogas plant being built in Haukivuori and which is to be handed over in time to Biohauki Inc. was begun on Wednesday 3/22/2017. In practice, this means that the pumping of so-called inoculum into the reactors has begun. The inoculum is biomass moved to the new plant from a biogas plant that is already in operation which contains the microbe stock required by the process. These microbes break up the organic material of the feed and form biogas from it. According to the Project Manager Anna Sydänmaa, starting the ramp-up creates the basis for the reception of the actual planned feeds, which is intended to be begun during the period from spring to summer. At the same time, the actual industrial-scale gas production will begin, which will make production of heat energy and refueling vehicles possible from gas produced by it within a few months.

Filling station handed over to the customers

Even though the high-quality biomethane produced by the biogas plant of Biohauki Inc. will have to be waited for a while longer, the company has already taken the gas filling station into use. For now, only stakeholders get to make use of the refueling possibility and the gas is brought from other biogas plants that are in operation. The handing over of the filling station from BioGTS to Biohauki was celebrated with bubbly on 2/28/2017, when biomethane was refueled at Haukivuori for the first time in the history of the locality!

At full capacity, the plant will produce an amount of biogas that corresponds, when refined for transport use, to the annual fuel requirement of 350-400 cars.
