Installation work and start-up phase of Mustankorkea Ltd.’s biogas plant delivered by BioGTS have been progressing as planned. All municipal biowaste generated in the Jyväskylä region is delivered to and treated at the biogas plant of the waste management company. Produced biogas will be mostly utilized as transportation fuel in the Jyväskylä region. The opening of Mustankorkea Ltd.’s public refueling station is held on 17 August 2017.
Mustankorkea Ltd‘s biogas plant was granted an environmental permit in 2015, its construction work was started at the Mustankorkea waste management center in spring 2016 and the new biogas plant was completed in the summer of 2017. In June, the waste management company received a significant recognition in the form of Environmental Achievement 2016 award for the construction of the biogas plant and the promotion of biogas transportation awareness and related positive knowledge.
Mustankorkea Ltd. is responsible for the implementation of waste management practices in three municipalities: Jyväskylä, Laukaa and Muurame. The biogas plant delivered by BioGTS Ltd. will ensure that biowaste, manure and sewage sludge from Central Finland can be handled and recycled also in the future in its own region, in the Central Finland’s largest biogas plant that is based on dry anaerobic digestion process. The dry process is a more sophisticated alternative to the traditional wet process. The dry-based anaerobic digestion process is particularly suitable for the treatment of biowaste, besides, it saves energy and water.
Now Mustankorkea Ltd.’s biogas plant successfully produces local biogas from organic waste, such as households’ food residues, sewage sludge and biodegradable waste from food industry. The transportation fuel produced is biomethane, which is a completely renewable, domestic and emission-free alternative to fossil fuels imported from abroad.
